Yellow Perch Fishing Trips in Ontario

Yellow perch are not found in the northwest area of the province, as many of the species we have covered are. Instead, you will find the best fishing grounds for the yellow perch are in the Great Lakes drainage area, but introduction of the province in lakes throughout the province have resulted in the species becoming very widespread. The yellow perch like open water and a moderate amount of vegetation and will therefore be found widely in areas that match that criteria, and also have bass and walleye in them.

Yellow perch are typically caught in several different styles to varying success. You can use earthworms, minnows and grasshoppers as bait to great success, or any insects or flies if you can get them. Small spinners, or spinner and fly combination are also well known for being effective. Another type to try is a small tube jigs or twisted tail bait.

Of all of these, the live minnow gives the greatest success because northern perch prefer natural food that they happen to be feeding upon at the time.
