Ontario drive-in fishing lodges: your boat, your gear, your schedule

Not every great trip needs a plane. Drive-in lodges let you tow your own rig up the highway, load in all your tackle and electronics, and fish on your own clock.

Why drive in

Flexibility, value, and your own equipment

Drive-to lodges are the most popular way to fish Northern Ontario, and for good reason. You keep your vehicle, your boat, your rods, your graphs — and all the services of the nearest town are at your disposal.

You'll pick a plan that fits your group. The American plan is all-inclusive with home-cooked meals in a dining room. A housekeeping plan gives you a fully-equipped cabin to cook your own catch and set your own pace.

The key insight: drive-in doesn't mean second-rate fishing. Lakes like Eagle Lake, Wabigoon, and Gull Rock Lake are drive-to waters that hold trophy walleye, pike, and bass — some with 500 kilometres of shoreline.

Packing for a drive-in trip

The big advantage is you can bring everything. Load the boat with your own rods, reels, and electronics — and even if you rent a camp boat, pack pliers, line cutters, a landing net, and safety gear regardless of what's provided.

Because you have wheels, a drive-in base also makes multi-lake and multi-species trips easy. Many anglers fish a different nearby lake every couple of days.
